The 2 Fat Ladies is not meant as an insult to large framed ladies. It is the title of a TV cooking show ! The 2 stars of the show are really 2 fat ladies who have no qualms about using this description. The show is entertaining and different from any other I have seen to date.

As this site gets quite a few international visitors who probably have not heard of the show at all. Here it is a quick description of the show and how it relates to motorcycles. Other than that I have seen all the episodes.

The 2 Fat Ladies is a cooking show (almost gourmet in style). It stars Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Paterson. Clarrisa is the blond one and Jennifer is the dark haired one. They travel around cooking meals for people on a Triumph side car outfit. It quite novel as not many shows have their cooks ride around the country side collecting ingredients. They've crashed got bogged etc.. throughout the series.

The registration number of the bike is N88 TFL.

The bike is a Triumph Thunderbird.

The sidecar is a Watsonian GP Jubilee. Which looks great I should add.
Both are quite characters dishing out witty remarks and breaking out into what are obviously very old songs as I've never heard them before ! The food they prepare is a shock to the system. They use heaps of fat based natural products and are spice orientated. Don't watch this show if your on a diet !

Jennifer is the bike rider and the smoker of the pair and she does this quite openly in the show which is unusual in today's anti-smoking climate. From what I can find out about her she is very much a rebel. She came from a military family, often referred to in the TV series.

Her childhood involved being expelled from a convent school for being disruptive. She remarked that the nuns at The School of The Assumption : "They had to expel me in the end. They said it was the only way to get the rest of the school to settle down."

She lived a full life living in Benghaziin Libya, Portugal, Venice and Sicily. Her career involved being a teacher in English in Portugal, a matron at a girls school and a cook for the Ugandan legation in London, a member of the Candid camera show and a food writer/cook for The Spectator. She often provided lunches for well known identities including the Prince of Wales, Graham Greene and Alec Guinness. I think it was her who made the remark that that the animals on the Australian Coat of Arms was more edible than the British one.

Clarissa Dickson Wright who in the past was a solicitor but currently runs a book store in Edinburgh Scotland.  It is well known that she is a reformed drinker ! As expected I have never seen her drink a alcoholic drink in the entire series !! She has family in Sydney Australia. And visited them last year ? More info as I find out...

Sadly Jennifer Paterson (71 Yrs old) has died of lung cancer in August 1999.
Research for this page was from various paper based magazines, the cook books and show its self and internet sources, including the BBC news site.

Update March 2014: Once again I have to update this post, that's been on my website since 1999 - that Clarissa Dickson Wright has died aged 66 from an undisclosed illness.
