1 August 2010

After the last update on the bike I've been through a bit of a issue with life in general and strangely it has been relatively painless. Yes - it was mini mid-life and I guess it is over now. As a few of you regulars know riding a motorcycle is therapeutic and that's probably the reason why many who sold their motorcycles do it all again later in life. Sure some who visit this site don't have a choice in regards to getting around but the world does advance and sooner or later the opportunity will arise. Sounds vague but that's life too. Make the most of it! Resuming normal programming next update.

8 August 2010

An auspicious date for an update! I started the Hayabusa for the first time after quite a number of weeks in hibernation. What can I say - the noise the smells and the thud of the side stand locking into place all bring back memories of great times past on two wheels.
However as they say 'all good things must come to an end' and the petrol powered motorcycle will not be around forever. That goes for the regular car too. A much as I enjoy petrol powered transport and entertainment - It is clear that things are changing as the world moves towards alternate fuel sources. It is about time we stopped relying on a finite resource and one that has polluted the environment for so long. May the new fuel source be convenient and enjoyable as petrol!

15 August 2010

While driving this week an incident reminded me of why people hate scooter riders and hence motorcycle riders. This is a common attitude held by many in my part of the world and does not apply everywhere! You see most people don't really care if motorcycle or scooters want to line split when stopped in traffic BUT when they hold up traffic at the lights then most get really annoyed. If you're going to line split to the front then show curtesy to order road users and move off as fast as possible when the lights change. Don't be a loser and stuff around you give all riders a bad reputation reinforcing the stereotype. If you have a slow scooter or bike than wait like everyone else behind someone who is faster.

Then the other incident where two riders decide to have a conversation at the lights rather than watching the lights or traffic. I regard this as dangerous. The road is not a coffee shop.

Anyway enough complaints about other riders I do a car one next week!

Based on past surveys most motorcycle riders also drive a car. I'm sure everyone is well aware of how bad and even more annoying car drivers are - at least in parts of the world where car is the main form of transport. The following that the ones that come to mind as I write this update.

I think the most annoying drivers are the ones who think they are going at the speed limit in the overtaking lane whilst every other car in the other lanes are overtaking them. Then when there is a construction zone with real people working and with a posted speed limit they completely ignore it. They are idiots.

Then there is 'baby on board' signs - which to me means that the driver is distracted which is equivalent to being drunk, drug affected or on the phone .
Then of course there are the tail gaters. There are different types of course but the most dangerous are the ones who do it for no reason - while I do understand the frustration especially caused by previously mentioned drivers - know that there is something called 'road karma' - and it will eventually get you!

5 September 2010

This week I saw in the news about a guy who refused to pay ay speeding tickets received because he argued that without proof that the cameras have been calibrated correctly, to the specific Australian standards there is clearly no proof that they are working correctly! I'll post the link as soon as I can find it on the website.

It is fair that if you get caught speeding you should pay the fine. However it has be real not something made up. Anything that the government does or proposes is accountable especially when the law is concerned.

It is like petrol stations where there are inspectors that check that the pumps are giving out the correct amount of fuel. Hence it is in the interests of the public to ensure that if you receive a fine for supposedly exceeding the speed limit that the device recording it is actually accurate! Why aren't these systems being checked - what is there to hide?

12 September 2010

The day after the event that changed everything! I haven't been writing much about the Hayabusa ownership because there is nothing new to write about! It running fine goes really well and that is they way it should be. Of late though the closest thing I can think of to note is that it is a big bike and can be a handful to manoeuvre when parking. Hopefully I'll have more to write about next week.
