6 July 2008 The news for this post is not entirely positive. First there's a recall on the Hayabusa. It appears that not all models are effected. Unfortunately mine is so recall works will be done on it shortly. Secondly, there is a defect on my Hayabusa! The ignition hole cover no longer closes properly. Sure it's not exactly a water tight seal but it shouldn't happen on a motorcycle which is barely 6 months old. (See the picture above.) In other news the Hayabusa's cold starting enrichment cycle works really well. Maybe its just me but I noticed that the starter motor either really strong or perhaps the engine takes less to turn over? Maybe because the bike is still new but it starts really easily! All in all so far so good, not complains about the way the new ones works. 19 July 2008 The first thing, I avoid doing technical or mechanical articles on the Hayabusa - in general. Why? because there are so many opinions out there and putting another one up may just confuse the issue even more and I try to avoid that too! Sure I've learnt a few things over the years but it's takes too much time to write up and besides I don't get paid for this. So the recall on the ignition wires is interesting... I've learnt that it is a world wide recall and the details as to what it involves is simple but relatively time consuming to do. Not all bikes are effected - so they claim - but all are recalled for examination regardless. So take your bike in to be examined and fixed if necessary. Overall my Hayabusa is doing well, if your considering getting one the answer is yes do it. That said, I do think the 1st generation is better in certain ways and believe Suzuki should have spent more time refining it. 10 August 2008 The recall work has been done on my bike. They have definitely done some thing cause my prior key housing issue has been rectified. Not sure about my the servicing side of the dealer, least they don't actually know I 'm the one behind this site. Anyhow I can't see or feel any difference on the Hayabusa. As for Hayabusa sales so far, I don't have specific figures but based on the reports I've read I estimate an initial 25,000 production run. 10,000 for North America 10,000 for Europe and 5,000 split between all the other countries. I wish someone could help me locate the actual figures. 21 September 2008 This update is all about the 2nd Generation Hayabusa's fuel consumption. I am getting 7-8 litres per 100 kms! for normal relatively easy riding. This is not very good because I was getting sub 6 litres on the original version. Why? Maybe because its cold and the choke is being activated or perhaps it's still being run in. I hope that can report better for the next update. 28 September 2008 There is another issue I have with the new Hayabusa, and that is the lack of a centre stand. Sure not many motorcycles these days have one but I had one on my 1999 Hayabusa and I loved it. (As much as one can 'love' a centre stand anyhow) So I went shopping a bought a new race stand. I had problems with lifting the bike on the new race stand but eventually worked it out. Much like lifting any motorcycle on the centre stand really - there is a technique. 9 November 2008 This update is about tyre wear! I'm sure all of you know that tyre pressures are one of the more important factors that effects tyre wear. There is proper scientific research behind the whole thing but the fact that everyone has a different result shows that you shouldn't dwell on 'fact'. Unlike the original Hayabusa the increased tyre wear isn't a talking point. (I think it's become the norm) Some of you may recall the 1st generation reports of 3000kms per rear type etc.. Just check my old archive pages for more info. Anyway I'd like to report that the tyre wear on the 2nd generation Hayabusa appears to be better than the original. Lots have changed over the last 10 years and you'd expect that. So at 4000km the original tyre still looks reasonably round and still has plenty of thread left! Yes I haven't done many kilometres in the last 6 months. Why? so many reasons - winter, injuries and plain having to work! Hopefully over summer and holidays I should b able to clock up more miles.
