Updates

Update 23/01/2000 :  Yes, I'm back !  The phone is connected, and all the moving and unpacking is almost finished.   As you may have noticed I tried to find out what the symbol on the bike means.   It is pronounced 'haa yah tow' and means either fast or cool !  (Yet to be confirmed but she reckons it's 90% correct)  I've typed up the first draft of the Y2K predictions in horrorscope so check out what might be in store for you this year.  I'll be completing the write up over the next few weeks !

My Email server was under maintenance for a little while so if I haven't replied to your Email by now please resend your messages ! BTW I'm getting a 52,000bps transfer rate through this phone line now ! That's good because I was getting between 33,000 and 44,000bps in my other place.

Anyway, back to what this site is about.  After a 2 week break from riding it feels really nice to be back.  The new AVON rear is still being run in ! I've only done about 100kms due to being busy, so these are only the initial impressions.  Firstly, the tyre does feel sticker than the BT56 S.  The BT56 S feels stiff and grippy but the AVONS feel soft and sticky.  The AVONS are definitely wider hence flatter, and when cornering this definitely shows.  Leaning at this stage seems like a conscious effort.   It appears to understeer compared to what I was used to.  However once you have your line sorted the tyres grip very well.   They also feel very stable where as the BT56 tended to feel a tad precarious when cornering fast.  The AVONs do give a strong impression of being able to lean a long long way.  I'm haven't been revving to much anyway.

The front wobble has definitely been reduced !  I had the front tyre balance checked when I had the AVONs fitted and they were perfect.  Hence the wobble may be caused by some other factor, possibly tight head bearings.  My question is with the AVONs why has the wobble decreased noticably ?   I feel the need the play with tyre pressures again !

Update 09/01/2000 :  I got sooo bored with packing up I decided to check out the Net, after all I be packing my machine up shortly.  Anyway I've got new tyres !  I was just checking out what was available when I stumbled on it !  I'm the owner of a new AVON AZARO AV36 rear tyre !.  It has a groovy, thread pattern ! and it looks huge !  It's the widest rear tyre I have ever seen, for a bike.  However the edges look pretty slick so I'm not sure what they'd be like in the wet !  I haven't found any Net reports on the AVONs yet... so its going to be an interesting experience over the next few thousand K's.   Initial ride impressions seem to suggest a sticky compound !

Anyway, I have to get back packing !  Next update probably when I get the phone connected in my new place !

Update 09/01/2000 (in advance) :  This update is done in advance as alot of crap has happened over the past week.  I'm moving house. Not that it matters but currently I live in an area which most would not call the better part of Darwin.   And as it is at least 15-20 minutes by Hayabusa (observing the speed limit, I won't mention the quickest I done it in.) to town 25-30 minutes by car it is a tad inconvenient when I like to socialise especially so  when I also have an apartment overlooking the wharf in town !  So the tenants have decided to move out so I can move in !  I'm going to be really busy over the weekend packing and next week considering (it looks like) I have to travel to Melbourne for the next weekend for personal matters.  Heavy work loads don't add much to my enjoyment of life at this point in time.

Site updates include extra Accessories pics.  Sorry but I haven't had time to do the 'horrorscope' this week.  So maybe next week.  It's a long flight 6 hour+ flight to Melbourne so I can do some star gazing then.... thankfully I'll be in business class.

Hayabusa trivia : Did you know that the recommended pressures on the Hayabusa's tyres are 42 which is also the answer to the question of life the universe and everything !  More 42s on the Hayabusa over the next few weeks.

Even worse I won't be able to get the rear tyre replaced for at least 2 weeks.

Update 02/01/2000 :  Welcome to the new Millennium or is it the last year of the old one ?  Lots of site updates, however I didn't manage to complete the new look as yet.  Hence still the minimalist look.  But its quick to load ! according to the speed load counter !  Some new pictures of my Hayabusa, pictures of the Accessories page including the Haybusa on the center stand and heroblobs ! and the promised The 2 Fat Ladies page.  The 'horrorscope' predictions for 2000 will be completed next week.

Not much riding done over the past week as its been storming at inappropriate times.  From my last high speed trip I estimate that the Hayabusa can cover 350km per tank avg speed -160kph. Maybe a tad more if tank was filled to the top with premium unleaded.  I have never got a reading under 5.2 litres per 100km no matter what sort of riding I do.

I'm shopping for a new tyre over the next few weeks, hopefully it'll be a BT56 J spec dependent on stock, although I don't think that would happen, so I'll opting for the Dunlop D207,  just to try it out.
